  • In 2017 Catholic Education Week was from 12–19 March when we celebrated more than 150 years of service to the Victorian community.

The theme for this year was Moved by the love of Christ. A number of events for schools took place during Catholic Education Week:

    • Mass for Schools held in St Patrick's Cathedral on Friday 17 March
    • following the Mass, a Concert was held in the Treasury Gardens for primary students
    • Young Speakers Colloquium for Years 9 and 10 students was held on Friday 17 March at the Catholic Leadership Centre
    • Visual Arts Exhibition was open to the public 14–18 March at the Catholic Leadership Centre

School communities from across the Archdiocese of Melbourne came together for events recognising the spirit of the young people who attend our primary and secondary schools, embracing the theme 'Moved by the love of Christ'. The week culminated with the Mass for Schools in St Patrick’s Cathedral, East Melbourne, on St Patrick’s Day itself, March 17. This was followed by the ever-popular Concert in the Park in the nearby gardens, with 2,000 students enjoying the best school bands, sharing a picnic lunch and making new friends.

Other highlights included the always dazzling Visual Arts Display at the Catholic Leadership Centre, East Melbourne, a long-established highlight of the arts education calendar, and the Young Speakers Colloquium, an opportunity for secondary students to hear about the diverse and unique life journeys former Catholic students have embarked on.

Catholic Education Week was also marked at a local school level with a wide range of events in individual schools that enabled students, staff, friends and family to come together to celebrate the spirit of their school community.
